Bootsschein-Trainer
All 1,516 official theory questions for six certificates — explained, not just ticked.
The official question catalogues for the German boating licences, the SKS and the radio certificates, verbatim — with the reason behind every right answer.
What it does
Anyone taking the German powerboat licence gets a catalogue of 585 questions and, usually, an app that ticks them off. After three rounds you recognise the right answer by its sentence structure and still do not know why it is right — and in the exam the options come in a different order. Bootsschein-Trainer starts there: 1,516 questions from the official catalogues of the German waterways administration, taken unchanged — for the coastal and inland licence, the coastal skipper certificate (SKS) and the SRC and LRC radio certificates, including the SRC adaptation exam. Under 878 of them sits the project's own writing: the reasoning, a mnemonic and the mistake people usually make. The SKS has nothing to tick; there the official model answer stands, and you measure your own answer against it. Practice comes in several shapes: a daily ration, flashcards, answering in your own words, pictures and signs only, questions that are easily confused, and a ninety-second round against the clock. Plus 153 reference boards, 15 navigation tasks with model answers, a study plan in 118 stages and an exam simulation scored by the official key. The learning record stays in the browser: no account, no server, and it works offline. The site is in German.

A taste
Four of 878 mnemonics — verbatim
The questions are official and quoted verbatim. What sits underneath them is the project's own writing: why the right answer is right, a mnemonic and the mistake people usually make. These four appear exactly like this.
Straight in
If you already know what you are looking for in Bootsschein-Trainer
It fits you if
- You are taking the licence, the SKS or a radio certificate and want to understand what you are ticking — the reasoning sits under every question, not just the tick
- You want to sit the exam once before the day: the simulation follows the official scoring key, with a clock
- You do not want an account — the learning record stays in your browser and reaches no server
It does not fit if
- You need the practical training: this is the theory, and it will not get a boat off the pier
- You want to tick boxes for the SKS: there are no options there, only the official model answer to each question, against which you mark your own
- You want an official service: only the catalogue on elwis.de is binding, and every page says so
Both lists are here because a product that fits everyone was made for no one.
How it is built
The way it is built, written down
What is inside Bootsschein-Trainer is not only a promise here — it is described, with reasons and with what it costs.
Common questions
What visitors want to know before the first click.
Are these the real exam questions?
Yes, and unchanged: 1,516 questions from the official catalogues of the German waterways and shipping administration, quoted verbatim and sourced on every page. Only the catalogue on elwis.de is binding.
What is different about the explanations?
They are not official — they are the project's own writing, one for each of the 878 questions of the boating licence and the radio certificates: why the right answer is right, a mnemonic to keep it, and the confusion most people fall for. For the SKS the official model answer takes their place.
Which certificates are covered?
Six: the coastal (285 questions) and inland (300) powerboat licence, the coastal skipper certificate SKS (638), the SRC (180) and LRC (76) radio certificates and the SRC adaptation exam (37) — every catalogue complete.
